Nowhere Everywhere
What is female?
Nowhere Everywhere is a multimedia project and a research study into identity and the concept of the ‘female’ outside the scope of contemporary society. I started this project in 2023 with the construction of a mask that represents a beast that sit quietly inside every woman.
Masks are a recurring element in my artistic research, as a shamanic means of reaching out to other worlds and inviting them to manifest themselves in the physical human world.
The mask was constructed through a combination of techniques, including crochet, following only basic instructions imparted by my paternal grandmother during my childhood. Its making was followed by photos, drawings, and a short film I created with the contribution of dancer Anna Cracco. The styling of the film is curated by the awarded costume designer Jessica Cabassa.
This project is currently under development.
